We have just completed publication of student work from David Goodman´s recent course, Culture and Theory Five. Students Marina Carretero, Beatríz Fernández Gómez, Ana González Granja, Fernando Jiménez Salmerón, Candela Oliva Varier, and Blanca Pérez González researched, wrote, and designed their graphic essays on historical and contemporary topics. We´ve assembled these in a 400 page publication, availble for viewing in two parts at issuu.com or for purchase in actual physical printed book format (imagine that!) at the below link.

Eva Jiricna and Chris Wilkinson are curating the architecture gallery of this year’s Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Their curatorial direction seeks to blur the boundaries between architecture and fine arts, becoming quite a challenge. During the past few weeks, our 2nd year student, Josephine Gillard has proudly been helping the two RA members in displaying the works of the most renowned architects of our actual generation.

This Friday we welcome Carlos Quintans to Architecture @ IE University, as part of the 3rd edition of the IE Timber Seminar, organized with the support of the American Hardwood Export Council. In this workshop, the students will meet with Carlos Quintans, director of the journal TECTONICA. Students will discuss issues in construction and, in particular, the use of timber with a leading professional in the field of building construction.

Carlos Quintans is an architect, professor, coordinator, editor, and director of TECTONICA, a leading architectural journal specializing in construction.

Quintans will talk about timber as a powerful material for contemporary architecture and he will illustrate his presentation with examples of traditional architecture and with his own experience as an architect through the use of timber construction in his own works. Students will understand wood as a concept, as a finish material, as structure, etc.
